There are two types of chasing in writing. Plot Bunnies and Rabbit Holes. Plot Bunnies take you down a road of possibility for a certain way the plot can go. Rabbit Holes suck you into subjects that are tangentially related to the scene you are trying to write but not where you wanted to end
