There are two types of chasing in writing. Plot Bunnies and Rabbit Holes. Plot Bunnies take you down a road of possibility for a certain way the plot can go. Rabbit Holes suck you into subjects that are tangentially related to the scene you are trying to write but not where you wanted to end up.
Tonight I am going down Rabbit Holes. It all starts with a scene of Katrine meeting Gale’s mom. Should be simple right? Nope. Where does mom live? Where does Katrine live? How far apart is that? How does she get there? And this ends with me looking up motorcycle brands in Germany in the 1980s.
I did finally write most of the scene though. Finishing it up after this brief update.
The life of a writer, man, the life of a writer.
